“Hoipolloi ranks with Kneehigh Theatre as a group with a genuine desire to connect with its audiences. Like its Cornish counterpart, Hoipolloi offers work that is clever, accessible and engaging”

Until next time…

After The Bishops let it loose across the UK for a month, we’ve finally found a way to contain their Doubtful Guest… for the time being at least!

After its opening in Watford, where it received glowing reviews from both The Guardian and The Times, the company had great fun presenting it up in Liverpool, Ipswich and its final destination, Newcastle.

The audience response has been fantastic and we can’t wait to present the show in October and November when the show will be hitting the road once again. Thank you to everyone who’s been in touch to tell us their thoughts on the show, you’ll find a selection of reviews from both press and audience here.

For those of you who’ve missed it, we’ll be announcing a new set of autumn tour dates in June.

So a temporary goodbye from the Doubtful Guest but don’t worry, it’s not for long as “to this day it has shown no intention of going away”.

Hugh takes on the world

Hugh and Aled have returned safely from Bogata, Columbia with plenty of exciting stories to share. The five performances of Story of a Rabbit, as part of the XI Festival Iberoamericano de Teatro, were all sell-outs and thankfully the show was not lost in translation.

Encouraged by the success of sending a show to a non-English speaking country, we’re also helping Hugh and Sioned to take Floating off to Moscow at the end of May. It’s a fleeting visit but if you happen to be in Moscow or have any friends/relatives there, you can find booking details here.

For those of you in the UK, don’t forget that from the beginning of May you can catch the first full UK tour of Story of a Rabbit.

We help to open the Norfolk and Norwich Festival with two performances at Norwich Playhouse on 2 & 3 May. The show then heads to Hoipolloi’s home town of Cambridge with four shows at The Junction.

After this the show travels on to Liverpool’s Everyman Theatre, Brighton Festival, the New Wolsey Theatre in Ipswich and the Drum Theatre in Plymouth before finally ending up at the Barbican Centre from 11 to 21 June.

Full details can be found here.

Intern wanted!

Over the past 9 months, the Hoipolloi admin team has been receiving sterling support from Sara.

Working as our intern, Sara has spent her gap year before university learning a great deal about the complex operation of a touring company whilst helping us to undertake our varied administrative tasks.

She completes her time with us at the end of June and we’re now looking for a new candidate to take on this voluntary position. It’s an exciting and hands-on job suitable for anyone contemplating a career in the arts. For further information and a detailed job description please email Sara.
