Frequently Asked Questions

Are Hoipolloi able to do a workshop for my students?

Hoipolloi are able to offer a range of different workshops. Please see the Education area of the website for more information.

Do you accept work experience placements?

Although Hoipolloi are a small company, we aim to host at least one work placement per year. If you are interested in working with us, please look through the website and learn more about the company, then send us a copy of your CV with a covering letter, by post, explaining clearly what areas of work you are interested in (marketing, administration, production etc) and exactly what you hope to learn and achieve if you worked with us.

I’m a writer; can I send you a copy of my latest script?

We are unable to accept unsolicited scripts from writers. Hoipolloi’s work is normally developed and written by the company’s core artistic team in collaboration with our performers. Improvisation is key to the development of the shows and the script is the end result of, and not the starting point for the rehearsal process.

If you are based in the Eastern region and would like more information about script development and reading services, please contact Menagerie Theatre at www.menagerie.uk.com

I’m an actor and am interested in working with Hoipolloi. Can I send you my CV?

In general, Hoipolloi casts its shows from a pool of actors who we’ve worked with before or know of their work. As the performers are a vital part of the research and development of any show, our shows are generally cast at least six months prior to the start of any tour.

We are happy to accept CVs from actors, which we will hold on file, but please take time to look around the site and learn more about the company before sending anything to us.

We plan to hold two open workshops a year for performers who are interested in the way we make theatre. This is an ideal meeting place for both us as a company and, we hope, for you as performers. We will announce any workshop dates on the website or please email info@hoipolloi.org.uk to be kept informed of future dates.

Can I come and see a Hoipolloi rehearsal?

Hoipolloi’s rehearsals are normally a closed process. To find out how Hoipolloi approaches the creation of a show, please click here to learn more about Hoipolloi LAB.

On occasion, works-in-progress or script readings may be presented as part of Hoipolloi MASH, our programme of one-off performances or at one of the JAM nights at The Junction, Cambridge. We’ll announce any of these on the website or please join our free mailing-list to be kept updated.

I have seen a Hoipolloi show and am interested in staging it with my own group.

The rights for our all productions remain with Hoipolloi. There have been occasions in the past where we have allowed other companies to perform previous Hoipolloi shows. However, as scripts can often exist at various levels of usability, or in some cases don’t exist at all, it is difficult to allow this to happen on a regular basis. If you need any further information, please contact us at the Hoipolloi office.

We hope that the website gives a comprehensive overview of the company and our activities; however, if you have any further questions about Hoipolloi, feel free to email us at info@hoipolloi.org.uk and we will do our best to answer your question.
