Workshops

Hoipolloi have regularly provided workshops to schools, colleges and universities in the past and we are more than happy to accommodate any requests, even when we are not touring a production.

Workshops can either be from our sample menu below or we are happy to explore developing tailor-made workshops according to the needs of individual groups. We prefer to work with groups no larger than 25 people for a two-hour workshop.

For more information, including workshop costs, or to book a workshop, please contact Simon Bedford or Louise Coles on 01223 322748 or info@hoipolloi.org.uk

Comedy and Improvisation – Getting It Wrong

This workshop plays with the tension between failure and success. It plays with the pressure of wanting to get it right. It makes us aware of the logic, patterns and structures that surround us and finds ways of using them to make improvising a little bit easier.

The workshop looks at ways of reducing pressure on the improviser and therefore increasing the amount of fun there is to play. It searches for ways of discovering spontaneity and creating the liberty to experiment.

Improvising Character and Situation

What comes first - the character or the situation? This workshop plays with the relationship between character and situation and searches for simple and effective ways of helping the performer create character and situation simultaneously. By focusing on exaggerated and extreme characters and unreal and imaginative scenes, this workshop develops improvisation into theatricality.
