Hugh’s Diary

Going out on tour in 2005 with our production of Floating was an exciting time and an amazing opportunity. I didn’t want to forget the wonderful time I had, all the fascinating places we visited and the interesting people we met. So, with Sioned’s help, I decided to keep a diary and share my experiences of life on the road.

Enjoy!

Dear Hoipolloi
Played in Lincoln yesterday. Wonderful Cathedral. Met someone else called Hugh. He didn't look like me. He had very ginger curls

Travelled to Leicester this morning through very heavy mist that refused to clear. Added adventure and poignancy to the journey. I sat between Dilwyn and Sioned and felt very bonded as we all felt drenched by the damp. Autumn colours glowing. Beautiful!

Dear Hoipolloi
Thank you very much for organizing the accommodation here in Marlborough. Wonderful. Sioned had 3 showers because she liked the bathroom so much. I ate 2 sets of sausages – before and after bed!

See you soon

Dear Hoipolloi
Performing in Belfast was a fantastic experience. Sioned said it was like thinking you were organising a surprise party and then walking into a surprise party that someone had organised for you.

We were surprised how many people stayed behind after the show to talk to us. It was really nice to meet strangers who became friends for a moment. I can’t believe how many people had no idea where Anglesey was. Sioned said there are thousands of places that we’ve either never heard of or don’t even have a name for.

Condensing my last 13 years of working on this project into a theatre show has given me an enormous appetite to perform the show and the audiences have been so fantastic I can’t wait to be on stage every night of the tour.
