Hoipolloi: stretching the imaginationIn production
|
Introduction“When I first started telling the story of Anglesey floating away from the Welsh mainland a lot of people, especially those living on the island, thought I was making it up. As I continued to tell it and, over the years, collected evidence to prove that Anglesey went on this journey, people started to believe it was true. When Hoipolloi offered me the chance to turn the story into a show, I jumped at the opportunity. As we started to make theatre from the events and combine storytelling with some lecture-style presentation and show some slides and films it became clearer how true the story is. Floating is the first ever Hugh Hughes Production. I was delighted by the audiences’ engagement and fascination with the story and their joy at being perplexed. It was truly a remarkable experience performing this show and I very much look forward to making my second. Those of you who sometimes visit Anglesey or plan to go for the first time, please be aware that the people who live there keep this story a secret. And, if you’ve never been there, go to the lighthouse on South Stack – on a clear day, you can see Ireland.” Hugh Hughes |
