Hoipolloi: stretching the imaginationIn production
|
Story of a RabbitHugh’s first show, Floating, has been a great success, winning a Total Theatre Award at the Edinburgh Fringe ’06 and enjoying a sold-out run in New York. Building on this success, Hoipolloi has joined forces with the New Wolsey Theatre in Ipswich to commission Hugh’s second piece, Story of a Rabbit. “In Story of a Rabbit I tell two stories. One about a rabbit and the second about my father. The theme of death links all three and by telling them together I hope the show helps us let go of any fear we have of dying. A lot of people asked me why I was making a show about death. I told them it was because so many questions surrounded the subject that it felt very attractive. I’m so thrilled to have the opportunity to work with Hoipolloi and the New Wolsey and grateful to them for their enthusiasm and encouragement. When I tell my friends back home about the work I’m doing in theatre they ask if I’m ever coming back. Right now I’m not sure I ever will.” Hugh Hughes |
